Between Halloween and Election Day We Celebrate....

Fr. Dennis joined us from North Carolina for both Holy Communion and the celebration of All Saints Day which fell on Sunday this year. His sermon discussed All Saints Day, one of the greater festivals of Western Christianity. All Saints Day, a celebration from the early church, was commonly celebrated by the 800's. During the Reformation many abuses and celebrations of the Roman Church were rejected but the celebration of All Saints Day was retained. The Saints include 1) famous or great leaders such as the apostles, 2) especially devout Christians but not always famous ones, and 3) all faithful members of Christ's church who have received the Holy Spirit in Baptism. Fr. Dennis reminded us that we should give thanks to God for all His Saints (famous , ordinary, & loyal believers) and find inspiration to "earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints" (Jude 3). Thank you Fr. Dennis for making the trip over the mountains to be with us!

Fr. Scott led our Christian Education program this past Sunday. He began a short study of Jeremiah. Jeremiah often referred to as the "weeping prophet" and the "prophet of doom" lived in Jerusalem during the fall of the city and the destruction of the temple by the Babylonians. He is also the author of Lamentations and, in the Jewish tradition, the Book of Kings. Fr. Scott outlined the Book of Jeremiah and patiently answered all of our on and off topic questions!

In Advent, Fr. Scott plans to start a series of lessons reviewing the church calendar, the parts of the church, the vestments, creeds, etc.

Thank you, Fr. Scott for taking on our Christian Education Program!
