Lent Begins!

In preparation for Lent, we celebrated Shrove Tuesday at Perkins. Lots of good food (including pancakes!), coffee, and conversation!

Deacon Steve led Ash Wednesday services. Thank you Fr. Steve for driving over from NC!

Father Scott led Holy Communion services on the first Sunday in Lent. We really enjoyed seeing him two weeks in a row! Thank you Fr. Scott for driving up from Knoxville!

--------------------------------------------

Elsa, Mike, and Claudia visited Margaret this past week. She is tired but well. She misses attending church and is always happy to have visitors.

Carole and Rose Marie visited Gloria at her new residence. Gloria fell and broke her arm a few weeks ago. While her arm has healed, she is currently confined to a wheel chair. She is struggling with her situation.

Please keep both Margaret and Gloria in your prayers.

-----------------------------------------------

Sue and Teresa are starting an after church prayer group beginning this Sunday. The group will meet after services for the remainder of the Lenten season. The group is open to anyone interested. Each prayer meeting should last approximately 30 minutes.

The Women's Bible Study Group plans to finish Lesson 6, "Within the Vine" on Wednesday March 4 at 10 am. We will meet at the church. Please bring a light breakfast type food to share. -----------------------------------

Teresa is starting a new Women's Bible Study, "Made to Crave - Satisfying Your Deepest Desire with God, Not Food" on Wed. March 11 at 10 am at the Church! Please talk to Teresa for more information about the study including the book and study guide. _________________________________

The Men's Group is meeting on Tuesday, March 9 at 6 pm.

Our Family Night Out meetings will resume on Wednesday March 18 @ 6 pm. Jim will lead our program with readings from Vince Staten's book The Unconventional History of Kingsport. In this program, Jim will reveal the following information:

-How Deadman's curve on Memorial Blvd got it's name

-Why Mafair Methodist Church is spelled without a "y"

-How Wanola St. got it's name

And many other oddities about the origins of Kingsport.

---------------------------------------------

Our February article in "The Wooded Place" Magazine has been published. A copy of the article is pictured here. The article discussed the life of St. Valentine.

Our very talented musical members, Sue and Scott, are part of The Symphony of the Mountains and are participating in the wonderful show described above. Please share with anyone that might be interested! For more information on The Symphony of the Mountains please visit their website: at http://symphonyofthemountains.org/
