After services we enjoyed a delicious Italian themed lunch of lasagna, homemade pizza, garlic knots, and tossed salad.
For dessert we enjoyed Cranberry-Apple Dump Cake, Magic Pumpkin Cake, and muffins. Thank you Team 1, Diane, JP, Ambler, Keith and Jessica for all the delicious food!
Next Week
Low Mass on Wednesday at
11 am with Fr. Paul.
On Thursday we have Choir practice at 10 am and Bible Study at 11 am.
Fr. Paul will start a new series of lessons this Thursday, August 20 based on the book The Holiness of God by RC Sproul. Please come join us for these interesting and informative classes!
Both Christian Education and Children's Sunday School are cancelled as Fr. Paul is taking a summer break. Classes will resume on Sunday, September 13 at 9:15 and will discuss the thirty nine Articles of Religion in the Book of Common Prayer.

Isaiah 117 House
Jessica sent the following summary about the Isaiah 117 event this past week:
We had 13 in attendance this past Thursday for a report from Isaiah 117 House. Susan Cullum, the site coordinator, joined us for pizza and walked us through the history of Isaiah 117 House all the way to its present-day state. We had much laughter along with getting a better understanding of the system and the reality of what's going on in Sullivan County. On average, children stay at the house for about 3 days in Sullivan County now - that time frame used to be longer, but there is more awareness for the need of foster families.
We got a green light to do several care packages, so feel free to start collecting things that would go into a bedtime package (pajamas, book/bible, nightlight, etc) for all ages and make-up packages for teenage girls.
Finally, we were able to present Susan with a check for $500 from St. Peter's.

The Annual Deanery Picnic
St. Peter's is a member of the Appalachian Deanery which includes APA churches in East Tennessee, western North Carolina and parts of South Carolina. The annual picnic is an opportunity to meet the many wonderful people who are part of our larger church family. The picnic will be held on Saturday, August 29 at All Saints Anglican Church (15 McDowell Rd., Mills River, NC 28759). If you are interested in attending please let Fr. Paul know. More information about food and times to follow.

Advanced Directives and Planning Event
The Mission Committee is sponsoring an Advance Directives and Planning Event on Saturday, September 12 at 1:30 in the Parish Hall. Fr. Paul, Teresa, and Laura will be available to help plan your final services and prepare legal documents for healthcare (please note: not wills).
Earlier Teresa sent the following information about this event:
Yes, you have the power to decide who will make important decisions for you regarding your healthcare, finances, funeral, etc. You also have the authority to decide which hymns we sing at your final service, if you make your wishes known in advance. However, these decisions require you to put those choices in writing and in proper form. It is wise to think about these things and put your decisions in that proper form so as to control who and how these important decisions are made.
We have within our congregation people who can assist with these decisions. Laura is able to assist with funeral/memorial service planning. Teresa is offering to assist with the Power of Attorney for healthcare and financial issues. Fr. Paul will discuss planning your funeral service: choice of hymns, psalms, scripture, eulogy, etc. While to some this may seem morbid, for those of us who have gone through the sudden illness and loss of a loved one, it is terrible to make decisions without any guidance from our loved ones. It is the greatest kindness you can give your loved ones.
This event will be open to all St. Peter's members.
