"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

As I was out last Sunday, this email includes information from both Trinity XIV and Trinity XV. Lots to catch up on!

Fr. Paul led beautiful Holy Communion services on both the Feast of St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist ( The Fourteenth Sunday after Trinity) and the Fifteenth Sunday after Trinity.
Thank you Hutch for serving with Fr. Paul on Trinity XIV. Thank you Phil for serving for the first time on Trinity XV!

Team 5, the Men's team, provided a delicious lunch on St. Matthew's Feast Day. Their feast included barbecue with rolls, rice and chicken dish, meatballs in tomato sauce, pasta salad, chopped salad, chocolate torte, almond cake, cookies, and ice cream. Wow!!
Thank you Teresa and Benita for taking all the pictures!

On Trinity XV, Team 1 served a feast of fried chicken, potato casserole, spinach Spanakopita, tossed salad, heirloom tomatoes, bread & butter, pumpkin cake roll, and apple torte with apple sauce.

Many thanks to Teresa, Diane, Carol, and Nancy for all the delicious food.

Happenings - People
Taylor
I received a wonderful email from Taylor last week with both an update and pictures.

"Just a little update for everyone. The cats and I have arrived safe and sound at my mom's house in California. Being so confined for long stretches definitely stressed Jasper and Frankie a little bit, but they're great little travelers now and really made the best of it. My mom and I are taking care of a bunch of housekeeping before I fly on the 25th, and I'm trying to get as many visits in with family and friends as possible. We're going to be having a family send-off barbecue for me at my uncle's house on Sunday. It's a little bittersweet, but of course Dita and I are also incredibly excited!"

"Dita was in a beautiful, traditional Javanese dance that the hotel she works at put on for the guests. The performance turned out so impressive, and of course she was just lovely like always."
"So that's about all for now, but I just wanted to let everyone know we're here safe and sound and everything is going more-or-less according to plan! I miss you all so much; it's just not the same without St Peter's on Sundays, but I can't wait to update you some more and share how my new life is going. Thank you all again for your prayers, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for the amazing financial generosity in helping me make this big transition. It really made a huge difference for me and I can't even fully express how personally touched I am that you all came through for me in such an incredible way.
We'll be in touch again soon! I miss you all so very much.
Love,
Taylor"
We miss Taylor very much and very much look forward to hearing from him again soon. Prayers for a beautiful future for Taylor and Dita!

Pledges Due
At the annual Congregational meeting, an operating budget must be submitted and approved by the congregation for the next church year. In order to establish a budget we must ask for pledges. Please prayerfully consider and submit your pledge by Sunday, October 12. As in the past, we ask only for anonymous pledges dropped in the offertory plate or sent in the mail to the church. There are blank pledge sheets in the Narthex.
Fall Yard Work Day

Time to catch up on our church and yard maintenance after this crazy summer. We have scheduled a Fall Yard Work Day for Saturday Oct. 25 @ 10 am. The outside work includes trimming bushes, pulling weeds, mulching, etc. . . We will also be getting the inside of the church ready for the Bishop's visit on Sunday, November 9!
Please join us as we keep the church looking nice! We will provide pizza and drinks for lunch after all the yard work!

Congregational Meeting

Our Annual Congregational Meeting is coming up on Sunday, November 23.
In addition to other business, we will have two open positions on the Mission Committee. The new members will be elected to 3 year terms which start on Jan 1, 2026. Please let Fr. Paul or one of the current Mission Committee members know if you are interested in running for one of these very important positions.

Lunch at Chop House and By the Fireside: Symphony of the Mountains Holiday Concert - Saturday Dec. 6

Please mark your calendars! The Symphony of the Mountains is having their 'By The Fireside' Christmas Concert on Saturday, December 6 at 3 pm at the Toy F. Reid Eastman Employee Center in Kingsport. Tickets are $35 each.
Rose Marie has reserved tickets and made before the concert lunch reservations at The Chop House in Kingsport at noon. She reserved the private back room at The Chop House - if we have at least 25 people the room will be ours at no additional charge! A sign up sheet will be downstairs next Sunday!
Many Hands Needed

Keeping a busy church running smoothly takes many volunteers. Thank you to everyone for all your time and effort put into making St. Peter's such a wonderful place to worship. However, we are in need of additional help in the following areas:
At the congregational meeting we need to elect two new members to our five member Mission Committee. The new members will be elected to 3 year terms which start on Jan 1, 2026.
Ministering as a server or Lay Reader - please see Fr. Paul about serving in one of these very important roles!
Reading one of the lessons during Morning Prayer - Hutch has a sign up sheet downstairs.
Serving with the altar guild - they set up our beautiful altar before each Holy Communion service - please speak with Rose Marie or Misty.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration of these positions.
