"And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man."
St. Luke 2:52

Br, Scott led our beautiful Morning Prayer service this morning. His sermon focused on the Gospel Lesson from St. Luke which describes Jesus's visit to Jerusalem when He was 12 years old. This visit to Jerusalem is the only recorded event from Jesus's childhood and shows aspects of both His divine and His human nature. The passage of time between His birth, this visit to Jerusalem, and the beginning of His ministry are often represented in print by ellipses or dashes which reminded Scott of this poem:
The Dash
by Linda Ellis
I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend He referred to the dates on the tombstone from the beginning...to the end. He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. For that dash represents all the time that they spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved them know what that little line is worth. For it matters not, how much we own -- the cars...the house...the cash. What matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.
We need to live in our dashes and strive to "increase in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man" just as Jesus did. Also St. Peter's is currently in a "dash" period between Vicars. As a congregation we need to strive together as a body to "increase in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man" and always remember that God will provide.
