Mike led our Morning Prayer service this past Sunday as Fr. Scott was in Blacksburg at St. Phillips for his final mentoring service as part of his transition to the APA. The sermon Mike presented focused on two aspects of the Holy Ghost as described by Jesus in the Gospel lesson, John 16:5-15. The first is "When He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement." The second is "When He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth." God the Holy Ghost is the giver of all the good thing of civilization, is at work in the world, and is at work in the lives of people to bring them to Christ and His Church. The Holy Ghost, the comforter, makes people at home in Christian fellowship and gives inner strength to Christians just as He gave the Apostles courage after Pentecost, in contrast to their desertion of Christ before His death. Christians can also rely on the Holy Ghost's presence and teaching because the Holy Ghost is with God's people to teach and strengthen them. In summary, it is important for our faithfulness to Christ that we know that the Holy Spirit is at work in the world, pleading the cause of Christ and that He is at work in our lives as individuals and in the Church, to strengthen us and to lead us into all truth.
Thank you Mike for leading Morning Prayer and for presenting that thoughtful sermon!

Scott led our Sunday School lesson, prepared by Fr. Scott, on The Sacrament of Confirmation. The Form for Confirmation is the prayer said by the Bishop as he lays his hands on the person to be confirmed. The Matter for Confirmation consists of both the laying on of hands by the Bishop and anointing with Sacred Chrism. Scott also reviewed information about the Graces conferred in Confirmation, age requirements, and the answers to other common questions about Confirmation. Fr. Scott's notes are at the attached link:
