Father Scott brought his beautiful new baby girl, Audrey, to church this Sunday! How wonderful to meet her!
He also led our Christian Education lesson. He discussed the history and format of 'The Litany" (p. 54, BCP). The word Litany comes from the Greek word meaning a set of prayers or petitions. The format of the Litany (short prayers followed by repeated answers) follows a common form used in Synagogues and passed down through much of Christian History. Thomas Cranmer wrote our Litany in English many years before the break with Rome.
Fr. Scott reminded us the Litany
"is a prayer that Anglicans have always turned to in times of
trouble and uncertainty. As Christians, our first instinct should
always be to bring our anxieties to God. I think doing this
together can help us overcome some of these feelings we are all
having. No matter what, our Lord is still King and we know how
the story ends. A Government or COVID-19 cannot dethrone our
God."
As we were preparing to recite the Litany, Mike our lay reader for the Morning Prayer Service became ill and had to leave!
Fr. Scott graciously agreed to lead Morning Prayer Service for us. His daughter, Amber, joined him during his beautiful, extemporaneous, and heartfelt sermon! His sermon tied together the supplications in the Litany, the Gospel lesson from Matthew about forgiving seventy times seven times, and how important it is for us to forgive during this crazy year.
Thank you Fr. Scott!
After services, we dined in fine fall form with hotdogs, baked beans, chips, slaw, and homemade cookies brought by Diane and Rosalind! Diane introduced us to a wonderful concoction - the slaw dog!
