At Wednesday's Family Night Out, Jim gave a presentation about seashells and seashell collecting. He brought many examples from his extensive seashell collection as well as books he uses to identify seashells. Jim advised the priceless “royal purple” dye used during Biblical times was made only from a gland of a species of Murex. This species of Murex was almost driven to extinction in the Mediterranean before artificial dyes were developed.
In Acts 16:14 is the following reference to the purple dye:
"And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshiped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul." (KJV)
Thank you, Jim, for a very interesting presentation!
