The Second Sunday in Lent 2024

" And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table. Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour."

St. Matthew 15:27-28

On the Second Sunday in Lent, Fr. Yossi's sermon discussed Jesus's encounter with the Canaanite woman as described in the Gospel lesson from St. Luke. She seemed to understand who Jesus Christ was immediately and greeted him by kneeling before him like before a king. Despite the annoyance the disciples met her with, she was persistent - claiming a spot in the household even though she was unclean and unworthy. Jesus praises her for her faith. Jesus gives us more than crumbs - he gives a seat at the table!

The complete service may be found at the following link:

Thank you Fr. Yossi for the beautiful service and sermon. Thank you Br. Scott for the leading the Morning Prayer service. Thank you Hutch for serving with Fr. Yossi.

Thank you all for the wonderful food!

Our Bible Study will continue this Wednesday at the church. Fr. Paul is leading a series of lessons which are focused on his book As It Is In Heaven A Biblical, Historical, and Theological Introduction to the Traditional Church and Her Worship. The next 3 lectures will cover how the OT informs:

1. The Rule of God (His sovereignty).

2. His holiness and how it relates to His sovereignty

3. Questions often raised concerning the so-called God of the OT vs The God of the NT.

Come join us this Wed., Feb. 28 at 11 am for the next study. If you're enjoying these lectures, please bring a friend! Please remember to bring the book, your bible, and a lunch!

Our next Stations of the Cross service followed by a light dinner is scheduled on Friday, March 1 starting at 5 pm. The service is followed by a light dinner of soup, salad, and bread.

The fourteen Stations of the Cross allow us to walk with Jesus Christ during His final day before the Crucifixion using fourteen scripture readings interspersed with prayers. Each Station represents one event that happened during Jesus's walk to the cross. We join with early Christian pilgrims in Jerusalem who walked the Via Dolorosa, which is the path walked by Jesus to Mount Calvary. Come join us in this ancient tradition remembering Christ's Passion.

During Christian education this week, Fr. Yossi shared the following video. This film cinematically "walks through the locations of the Holy Week events, the most important days of human history." Images of the sites of many of the events included in the Stations of the Cross are included.

Help for Those in Need

Lynn sent this reminder that Shades of Grace is in need of toiletry items.

Do you have any of those hotel mini shampoos, conditioners, lotions or soap taking up space in your vanity? Donate them to Shades of Grace. If not you can still help. Visit a local Dollar Tree and pick up an item or two. Other items they need are bath soap, toothpaste and brushes, deodorant, disposable razors and hair combs.

Please bring your items to church so we can deliver them to Shades of Grace.

Thank you Lynn for reminder. St. Peter's has supported the Shades of Grace Ministry for a number of years as they provide help to those in need in the Tri-Cities area. Please find more information on Shades of Grace at the following link:

Please put any donations in the basket under the table in the Narthex.
