The Sixteenth Sunday after Trinity

"And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day"

Luke 14:3

Fr. Scott's sermon focused on the confrontation of the Pharisees by Jesus as he healed a man on the Sabbath as described in the Gospel lesson from Luke. Fr. Scott reviewed the role of the Jewish Law in Judea and the role of the Pharisees in creating "buffer" laws to help ensure people did not break any of the Jewish laws. Jesus never criticized the law as he had a complete understanding of the law. Therefore his healing miracle was a way of fulfilling & obeying the law to the fullest extent. The Sabbath was not about 'not working' but rather about people having a day of rest and therefore helping someone was within the law. We need to understand the 'why' of the law not just robotically follow the law. Our ultimate goal is being led to faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

Thank you Fr. Scott for the thoughtful sermon!

Before the Blessing of the Animals, Teresa and Sue cut down all the growth from the old walnut stump that was beginning to block our sign.

Then they hauled all the trimmings away and they were still smiling when they were all done!

Thank you both for all your help!

Armed Intruder Training

". . . Be not ye afraid of them: remember the LORD, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses." Nehemiah 4 :14

The Mission Committee also agreed to sponsor a 'Law Enforcement Response to Shootings in Public'. Mike and Teresa are arranging a free public seminar at St. Peters about how to respond in a random shooting situation. Teresa has arranged for the Sullivan County Sheriff, Jeff Cassidy to come to St. Peter's on Tuesday, Oct 11 at 6:30 pm. Teresa is also creating flyers for this event and mailing them to local churches.

Please let Fr. Scott or Teresa know if you have ideas for more outreach for this event!
