A Snowy, Sexagesima Sunday

The view from Mike and Claudia's house early Sunday morning was beautiful!

As was the view from Lynn and Daryl's house .....

And the view from Fr. Scott's....

Unfortunately, with all the snow, we decided to cancel in person services at the church and return to Discord for a Morning Prayer service. Thank you for sending in your pictures!

In his online sermon, Fr. Scott tied the Epistle lesson (1 Corinthians 11:19-31) and the Gospel lesson (Luke 8:4-15) to our preparations for Lent in this Gesima - Pre-Lenten season. He reviewed all the suffering Paul had endured for Christ during his ministry. Paul chose to glory in his trials rather than dwell sadly on them. In addition, Paul has the God given job of overseeing all the churches, a very difficult responsibility. We also face many external trials, including jobs and daily responsibilities, that we need to "overcome and reclaim for the purposes of God." Our possible responses to these trials are outlined in the Gospel lesson, The Parable of the Sower. In his last paragraph, Fr. Scott states the following:

"Whatever God leads us to tackle this upcoming Lent, know that God is able and willing to see the work in you completed. Give Him your problems, your issues, and your struggles. Instead of despairing over your weaknesses, actually glory in your weakness, knowing that despite all the evidence we come up with for us to fail, God can and will be even more glorified when He accomplishes in you His work of sanctification - all we have to do is try with a honest and good heart."

Thank you, Fr. Scott, for the beautiful sermon.

Thank you to everyone who made the Morning Prayer Service on Discord wonderful including Fr. Scott for the compiled service with Psalm and readings (and the sermon), Scott for the beautiful bulletin, and all the volunteer readers!
